The main problems are the difficulty of adding links (the HTML needs to be changed) and server problems (sometimes the site is inaccessible).

Another problem is they lack of tags.

Blogger in BETA solves some of these problems.

Advantages include the convenience, and that assignments are not lost. Students are also able to review their earlier work.

Update January 2007. Beta Blogger has solved many of the problems. Links are now easy to add, and there are labels as well. The continuing problem is that sometimes Blogger is inaccessible.

Friday 17 November Class

Please remember that we are back in A307 on Friday 17 November from 130 - 330.

You can see some of the work that was done last week here and here.

In the class you will look at the structure of a discursive essay.

Final Assessment

For the final assessment you need to write a complete essay on your blog.

The essay has to be based on one of the topics from assessment one (childhood obesity, air pollution, computer games or increasing human life span). You can use the title and introduction that you did for assignment one (using the comments I made to improve it) or you can start a new essay.

Your essay should:

1. Be written on your blog
2. Have a title
3. Have a good structure
4. Introduction, body (3 paragraphs) and conclusion
5. Include referencing in the APA style

6. Use the notes from the Students book to improve your essay
7. Do not copy or plagiarise your essay.

The deadline is the 1 December 2006.

Friday 10 November Class

You can find more about Activity 3b on pages 67 and 68 by visiting this site.

Homework is do write one more paragraph on activity 5 on page 71(Compare and contrast the advantages of eating at home and eating out). Pick one heading (for example, cost, convenience, taste, health and hygiene ) and write a paragraph comparing and contrasting that aspect. Write on your blog.

Remember to use expressions for comparing and contrasting such as 'While...', 'In contrast...' and 'On the other hand...'.

You should also use generalising language such as 'tend to', 'generally' and 'most'.

We are in A307 on 17 and 24 November from 1330-1530.
